The Dolomites
Naturalists and mountaineers, who are familiar with the mountain ranges around the entire world - from the Himalayas to the Grand Canyon to the Andes, often refer to the Dolomites as the most breath-taking and most mysterious mountain range in the world.
History of the Dolomites
The French scientist Deodat de Dolomieu travelled to South Tyrol in summer of 1788 for the first time. Here, he discovered a mysterious world of rugged peaks and towers, mountains, which no traveller had described before, mountains, which did not yet have a name. However, Dolomieu also discovered rocks that were not known until then. These rocks were later called "Dolomie". The discoverer of these mountains gave them their name.
